Panel to feature women in science

There’s a lot of focus all over the world to encourage more women to enter science-based careers. Locally, one doesn’t have to look long to find educators, researchers, doctors and many others who have made such that choice.

On Friday, a few of them will be sharing their experiences at a forum in Kenai. KaitlinVadla is with Cook Inlet Keeper, which helped to organize the event.

“It’s the brainchild of one of our board members, Benjamin Jackinsky," says Kaitlin Vadla with Cook Inlet Keeper, which is co-sponsoring the event.

"He wanted to celebrate all of the local women, professionals, who are scientists, and to encourage more women to go into the field.”

Seven panelists will give insights in their careers, ranging from civil engineering to field ecology.

“It’s going to be a conversation about some fo the successes and difficulties that women have had. You’ll hear how each of these women has had success in their profession. And conversations about women in science, gender roles and also how to move forward. We’re at a place in history, and there’s nowhere to go but up," Vadla says.

The event is free and being co-sponsored by the Peninsula Art Guild. It’s Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kenai Fine Arts Center.
