Nathan Erfurth

Host of A Good Year for Jazz, 7-9 p.m. Mondays on KDLL

Nathan grew up in Colorado and moved to Alaska six years ago for work. Back in college, he ran two programs: “Feed the Goats,” a weekly program that played “noninvasive homework rock,” and a morning show that played calm music and advised students across campus when it was time to get up and start walking to class.

Nathan fell in love with jazz because of his grandfather, who sent a cassette in the mail with a collection of jazz standards and his voice over them, explaining the people, the instruments, the age, and the magic.

First album: A “Star Wars” soundtrack. (I was not yet educated.)

Most memorable concert: I went to an oldies concert with my dad in high school and got to see Randy Bachman.

Desert island album: If I had to be stranded with one album, it would have to be a recording of “The Planets” by Holst.
