'Mini-Grant' program back with new policies, sub-committee

At Wednesday night’s Soldotna City Council meeting, the policy governing the resurrected Mini-Grant program was approved, along with establishing a sub-committee to review proposals and make recommendations.
The funding for the city’s mini-grants was cut in 2015, but replaced in the current Fiscal Year 2020 budget.
The sub-committee will be made up of two city council members, the city clerk and two other administration employees. They will be appointed by the mayor and approved by the council.
The sub committee will be tasked with reviewing applications for eligibility and conformance to program guidelines, and then making recommendations to the city council.
Applications must be from tax-exempt nonprofit organizations. Basic human needs, health services, history, music and the arts are all areas eligible for funding. Religious and political projects are not.
There will be two grant application cycles per year, starting in July and January, and awards are up to $1,000.
