Ballots for this fall’s municipal elections have been finalized, and most of the heated campaigning will be left for elections further up the political food chain.
In Kenai, three candidates are up for two seats. Bob Molloy is seeking reelection against Teea Winger and Robert Peterkin II.
In Soldotna, the choice is even easier. Three names for three seats. Paul Whitney and Justin Ruffridge are seeking reelection, while Jordan Chilson is looking for his first term on the city council. Ruffridge was chosen by the council over Chilson to carry out the rest of former council member Keith Baxter’s term earlier this year.
And even for the borough assembly, the candidate list is relatively uncluttered. Brent Hibbert is running unopposed for reelection in District 1. Kenn Carpenter will have no challenger for another term serving the eastern peninsula. Meanwhile, Troy Jones of Homer will challenge Willy Dunne’s seat on the southern peninsula. Voters will decide three borough-wide ballot measures, as well. Proposition one asks for approval of general obligation bonds to pay for a new school in Kachemak-Selo. Prop twoseeks to move the boundary between Central and Southern Peninsula hospitals to the south and Proposition three asks for approval to expand the boundaries of the Southern Peninsula Hospital Service Area to include the city of Seldovia.
Election Day is October 2nd. Absentee voting is open in the borough and begins on September 17th in the cities.
