Redoubt Reporter

A traffic accident on the Seward Highway this weekend resulted in a fatality.

Thirty-nine-year-old Melanie Hinkle died when her car collided with another around Mile 105 Saturday morning, according to Anchorage Police.

Police say a southbound driver crossed into oncoming traffic and hit Hinkle’s car head on. Her passenger was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

No one else was injured, according to the report.

The crash, which occurred around 11 a.m. near the Rainbow Trailhead on Turnagain Arm, temporarily closed both lanes of highway traffic.-

Hinkle’s next of kin have been notified.
