Power restored to mot HEA customers

Some Kenai Peninsula residents were still without power Thursday, with more than a foot of snow in some areas weighing down power lines and trees.

More than 3,000 Homer Electric Association customers were without power at one, with the longest outages in the Nikiski area, where more than 1,200 customers were affected. Power along Fisherman’s Road went out at 4:00 a.m. Monday and was still being restored as of Thursday morning, when 18 meters were still offline. Outages in Sterling, Kasilof and along the K-Beach corridor were taken care of by Wednesday morning.

Wintry conditions were also affecting traffic on the Sterling Highway, where one lane was shut down Wednesday morning after a vehicle went off the road into a slough. A Central Emergency Services dive crew responded to the scene at milepost 52 near Gwin’s Lodge in Cooper Landing. The road was reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
