Road construction season underway

The equipment was getting staged even before the snow was all gone along the Kenai Spur Highway, just outside town.

The state's road construction season officially got underway Monday and one of the larger projects on the central peninsula will continue. The five-lane section of the spur will be extended another three miles toward Soldotna. New drainage and signs are also part of that project.

Heading south, the Sterling highway will be closed at mile 106 beginning this Friday so crews can replace a culvert at Coal Creek. The detour will be K-Beach road. Other culvert replacement and shoulder widening projects will continue through the summer down to mile 18 in Clam Gulch.
