Snickers the wandering cat and her family reunited after two years

Shandalyn DeVolld

Two years ago a North Road cat named Snickers went out to play, and never came back.
“Snickers and her sister Pixie had gone out on an adventure and Pixie came home and Snickers didn’t,” said owner Shandalyn DeVolld. “We got the word out, you know, and … after a while we just kind of gave up hope that she was going to be coming home.”
But come home Snickers did, yes, after two years, with the help of the Kenai Animal Shelter and its outreach efforts. DeVolld tells us the story of Snicker's adventure.
“So it was pretty crazy. I was still in disbelief that was Snickers, but when they scanned her microchip, it was pretty hard not to believe anymore. She was allowing us to pat her and get close to her. She didn't hit at us or anything. She was very loving to be honest.
“As soon as we took her home, she really and truly made herself at home immediately. She was on the cat tower and climbing on the counters and getting into stuff like she usually did. And right off the bat she was catching shrews and bring live birds in the house. So she was pretty much back to normal right off the bat.
“Unfortunately, Snickers is staying with my father-in-law right now and she is an indoor cat at his house. (It’s) just because Pixie was not having it with another cat. But she's happy and healthy and she’s just such a great cuddly cat and we all love her very much; we’re all super happy that she's back.
“Oh my goodness. She was 14 pounds. Because I took her to the vet to get her checked up. And she was a couple years obviously behind on some vaccinations. So she was 14 pounds. She's about three pounds heavier than her sister, which was crazy.
“I guess Snickers had been roaming around Old Town Kenai for about two months. So I have no idea where she was before that. I just know from May to July she was in Old Town Kenai, by the apartment buildings by the bluff. We all are so curious how and what happened, where she's been, and we're all just thinking, 'darn we really should have attached a GoPro to her collar or something,' because what a story.
“I am just so thankful for the Kenai Animal Shelter. If they would not be posting the photos of these animals, and you know, just saying that they've been found or they're ready for adoption, we would have never found our cat after so many years. I'm very, very thankful that they've done that.”
