Kenai Conversation: Supporting LGBTQ+ students

At a school board meeting earlier this month, students and educators testified about their experiences with discrimination in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District, catalyzing a larger conversation about supporting students on the LGBTQ+ spectrum.

Today on the program: what supporting LGBTQ+ students looks like.

We talk to trained teachers about how they make their queer students feel safe in the classroom, where students on the LGBTQ+ spectrum have found community on the Kenai Peninsula and why it's so important for all students to feel seen.

Our guests are Homer High School students Sophia Dias and Thea Person, special education teacher Winter Marshall-Allen, Soldotna Pride in the Park Co-Coordinator Leslie Byrd and Jenny Feuilles, a teacher at Wasilla Middle School who held a training in the KPBSD last weekend.
