A settlement has been reached between the Kenai Peninsula Borough, Mayor Charlie Pierce and the borough’s former Human Resources Director, Stormy Brown. The agreement was reached in mediation last month.

Brown will receive $150,000, of which $15,000 is marked as payment of lost wages with the rest intended to compensate Brown for emotional distress damages.

Brown was abruptly fired from her position last year, and alleged Pierce ordered her dismissal after she’d revealed a terminal cancer diagnosis.

An order was granted on June 7th, dismissing the case with prejudice, meaning it can’t be relitigated. A jury trial had been scheduled for this past April. Following her departure from the Borough last year, Brown was hired by the city of Kenai as its Director of Human Resources.
