While the dogs and mushers often get the spotlight, Alaska author and historian Laurel Downing Bill will highlight another key figure: Emily Morgan, a 47-year-old Red Cross nurse who played a vital role in fighting the diphtheria outbreak. Inspired by Morgan’s life, Downing Bill researched other incredible Alaskans and just released a new Aunt Phil’s Trunk volume, Pioneers From Alaska’s Past, filled with their stories. Copies will be available after her presentation.
