Kenai Community Library August events
4-5 p.m. Mondays, Lego Club. Join us every Monday in the Front Conference Room to build awesome Lego® sculptures. Each week a new theme and challenge will help spark your imagination. Best for ages 6 to 11.
10:30-11 a.m. Tuesdays, Wee Read Story Time. Intended for young children ages birth to 3 years and their parents or caregivers, this program focuses on early language and social skills through fun stories, songs, and play time.
11-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Stay and Play. Join us after Wee Read or Preschool Storytime for playtime! The toy bin will be available, along with coloring sheets, sensory bins, and more to promote social emotional learning skills.
11 a.m.- 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Tech Time. Tech time is available at the Kenai Community Library for anyone with basic technology questions. Appointments preferred. Sign up at the main desk or call 907-283-4378 to reserve your spot today.
10:30-11 a.m. Wednesdays, Preschool Storytime. This story time for preschoolers, ages 3 to 5, includes stories, songs, activities, and rhymes specially designed to support reading readiness and foster social skills.
4-5 p.m. Wednesdays, Chess Open Hour. Do you like playing chess, or would you like to learn how? We’re proud to offer a casual chess program for all ages and levels. Boards provided.
11-11:30 a.m. Thursdays, Early Reader's Book Club. Designed with our newest readers in mind! Join us for phonics exercises and a chapter book read-aloud. Intended for ages 5-10.
3-4 p.m. Aug. 1, Summer Reading Program Finale Party. Join us on the south parking lot to celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program! There will be door prizes, games, free books, sweet treats, and more! As a reminder, we will not be drawing our grand prizes at this event, so please bring your Summer Reading sheets to claim your final prizes or tickets.

11 a.m.-noon Aug. 5, Little Crafts: Suncatchers. This class designed for kids 6 and under. Drop in anytime between 11:00am and noon, the craft will take around 20 minutes. This month we will make tissue paper suncatchers!
3-4 p.m. Aug. 6, Pencil Case Sewing Workshop. With school around the corner, it's time to get organized and get crafty! Join us to learn how to sew your own small closeable bag which you can use as a pencil case for this coming school year. Registration required.
4-6 p.m. Aug. 7. Teen Advisory Board (T.A.B.). If you are between the ages of 12 and 18 and have a passion for community, books, and learning, TAB is for you! Suggest and help us plan library programs and select new library materials, meet new people, gain volunteer hours, and more. Our meeting will last 30 minutes, followed by a hangout time. New members are always welcome.
5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 8, Escape Room. The Novel Sweets Candy Factory needs your help! You and your friends have 60 minutes to solve the rumors of a delicious secret recipe coveted by competitors and candy enthusiasts alike. Piece together clues, crack codes, and solve puzzles to unlock this delectable mystery — the fate of the factory's legacy rests in your hands. Registration required.
4-5 p.m. Aug. 12, American Girl Club. The Dollhouse will be open for this fun hour of play! Bring your own doll or play with ours during American Girl Club! Meets the same time and place as Lego Club.
4-5 p.m. Aug. 13, Lavender Sachet. Join us to make a fragrant sachet to help calm your nerves and help reduce stress. Space is limited, registration is required.
5-6 p.m. Aug. 14, Rhubarb Pancake - Cooking Class. Join us at the Kenai Library as we whip up some delicious Rhubarb Pancakes. We’ll show you how to cook and sweeten this versatile veggie to make a perfect for topping some delicious pancakes. Event is free but space is limited to 10 participants. Registration required.
1-2:30 p.m. Aug. 15, iPhone Basics at the Kenai Senior Center. This workshop is for those who have a new iOS mobile device, or are considering getting one, and want to learn more about the basic functions. It will support attendees to get connected, identify common apps, and build confidence in using their device safely.
3-4 p.m. Aug. 15, STEAM Studio. Join us every month to work on cool STEAM projects using a variety of tools. Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics, and more. This month we will be using the OctoStudio app to create our own games and digital masterpieces. Designed for a variety of experience levels ages 8 to 14.
3-4 p.m. Aug. 16, DIY Leather Craft Dog. Craft this simple but clever 3D Corgi dog ornament from scrap leather — No Sewing Required. This class is designed for adults. Supplies are limited and advanced registration is recommended.
3-4 p.m. Aug. 20, Back to School Bash. Bring your own device or play on ours! This is a chance to meet other gamers, share skills and info, compete, and enjoy everything Nintendo together. Open to anyone aged 8-18.
2-3 p.m. Aug. 24, DIY Flower Press. Join us to make your very own Flower Press. Preserve Alaska's beautiful wildflowers with your very own book press. Pressed flowers can be used in art projects and for homemade gifts.
11 a.m.-noon Aug. 26, Outdoor Storytime. Storytime, but outside! We'll have bubbles, chalk, and outdoor games to follow the storytime. It will be located just outside the kids spot entrance.
4-6 p.m. Aug. 27, Nintendo Switch Club. Bring your own device or play on ours! This is a chance to meet other gamers, share skills and info, compete, and enjoy everything Nintendo together. Open to anyone aged 8-18.
4-5 p.m. Aug. 29, Poetry Workshop. Join us for a freewrite and guided poetry exercise. Writing supplies will be available. Everyone is welcome.
