Kenai Community Library May events

Teen Advisory Board, 4-5 p.m. first Wednesday of the month. For teens between the ages of 12 and 18 with a passion for community, books and learning. Make suggestions to help plan library programs and select new library materials, meet new people and earn volunteer hours. Meetings last 30 minutes, followed by hangout time. New members welcome.

Harry Potter Trivia, 4-5 p.m. May 2. Open to all ages. Muggles welcome, but wizards and witches in costume receive bonus points.

Little Crafts — DIY Playdough, 11 a.m. to noon May 6. Designed for kids 6 and under. The craft will take around 15 minutes.

Crafternoon — Mini Terracotta Pot Painting, 5:30-6:30 p.m. May 9. This program is designed for adults. Space is limited, sign up at the library front desk or call (907) 283-4378 to reserve a spot.

Mindfulness Storytime, 3-3:30 p.m. May 10. Take a moment to breathe deeply and learn some mindfulness practices in a story-time setting. Open to kids ages 5 and under.

American Girl Club, 4-5 p.m. May 13. Bring your own doll or play with the one of the library’s dolls during American Girl Club.

Intro to Google Tools at the Kenai Senior Center, 1-2 p.m. May 16. Learn how to use Google’s free web-based applications for creating documents, spreadsheets, presentations and more.

Bike Maintenance, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. May 18. Celebrate National Bike Month by learning how to care for your bike with experts from Beemun's Bike Loft.

Upcycled Planter, 5:30-6:30 p.m. May 21. Learn how to use a feed bag to make a one of-a-kind planter for your garden. This class is beginner friendly and designed for teens and adults. Space is limited, so sign up at the library front desk or call (907) 283-4378 to reserve a spot.

How To: Build your Summer Reading List, 3-3:30 p.m. May 22. Join library staff for a short informational session on how to find read-a-likes and other popular titles on NoveList, Goodreads and more. Open to all ages.

STEAM Studio, 3-4 p.m. May 23. Work on STEAM projects using a variety of tools. This month we will be an Ozobot circus, teaching robots to perform a series of tricks using colored markers, codes and paper.

Needlepoint Library Card Holders, 3-4 p.m. May 24. Stitch a moose on a canvas envelope sized to hold your library card. This program is designed for teens and adults. Space is limited, so sign up at the library front desk or call (907) 283-4378 to reserve a spot.

Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Event: Book Bingo, 3-4 p.m. May 30. This all-ages event celebrates the start of the Summer Reading Program. Sign up for the reading program, play bingo and win prizes. The first 100 people through the door will receive a free ticket to a Peninsula Oilers baseball game.
