Kenai man in custody after death of infant

 

A Kenai man is in custody on charges of first and second degree murder and second degree assault.

On October 19th, Kenai Police began investigating a report that a four-month old infant had been brought to the emergency room at Central Peninsula Hospital. The child was airlifted to Providence Hospital in Anchorage where she was declared brain dead and taken off life support four days later.

Police arrested 34-year-old Franklin Schrader after an autopsy revealed the child had several injuries consistent with abusive head trauma or, Shaken Baby Syndrome. The investigation revealed in home video that led to the arrest. Schrader has no other criminal record. He was arraigned Friday in Kenai.
