Schools delayed peninsula-wide due to road conditions

Icy roads are delayed school starts today on the Kenai Peninsula today.

Though there were no cancellations or delays associated with Friday's 7.0 earthquake, weekend snow and rain have made road conditions sketchy enough that a delay was called.

A two hour delay means that buses run two hours later than normal, school begins two hours later than normal, and staff arrives at school two hours later than normal.

If parents and guardians kept their child at home this morning, the school district asks that you call your child's school to let them know, as absences will be excused.

Meanwhile, the Kenai River Campus of Kenai Peninsula College in Soldotna had a two-hour delay in start time as well, due to the road conditions. The delay applied to students, staff and faculty. The Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer opened on time and for regular hours.
