Most of the damage to state infrastructure on the Kenai Peninsula from Friday’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Anchorage occurred to latrines in three state parks.
According to the State Dept. of Transportation and Public Facilities earthquake damage update, four latrines, also known as public restrooms, were among the eight structures that were found to have sustained damage from the quake.
One is at Captain Cook State Park in Nikiski, two of them are at Deep Creek and another at the nearby Ninilchik Beach.
In addition, two picnic shelters, the ranger station and a storage shed at Captain Cook were damaged.
The State Department of Natural Resources will be assessing the damage. They have not yet posted a schedule on repairs.
In addition, two spots on the Kenai Spur Highway in Nikiski also suffered cracks to varying extent.
