Mayor reflects on Election Stakeholders Group

Kenai Mayor Brian Gabriel was one of several city officials from around the borough to participate in an ad-hoc stakeholders group regarding elections.

In reporting back to the Kenai City Council, the mayor said it was an interesting process.

“It’s a group of people that are looking at getting recommendations to the borough regarding possible voting changes moving forward," he said. "This will be an ongoing twice monthly meeting to probably in July."

Gabriel said the group will look at several different things, including equipment replacements.

“Because part of problem they have is some equipment that they have is aging they'll have to replace it so. How they move forward election make make a determination on what type of equipment to get, and there’s some other issues too," he said. "But actually pretty interesting group to be honest with you and I think as a move forward so it seems to be each each election cycle it seems to ramp up the rhetoric regarding you know any any maybe suspicious activities regarding election so it's nice to be on it kind of on the ground floor watching the whole process.”

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Election Stakeholders Group meets twice monthly in the Betty J. Glick Assembly Chambers. They are open to the public.
