Former Mayor Malston remembered at Kenai Council meeting

At last night's Kenai City Council meeting, former Mayor Ron Malston was remembered. He passed away late last month at the age of 85. The council voted to place a memorial plaque at Leif Hansen Memorial Park, and plant a tree in his name.

A memorial service was held on Saturday.

“Obviously as a former mayor service that he provided to the city as a small business owner, I did attend his memorial service on Saturday and you know was one of those who's who,. When he looked around the room it was a who's who of Kenai there, the old guard,” said current Kenai Mayor Brian Gabriel. “You know, you saw some of his running mates and cohorts and like I said that’s the sort of the people that really molded this city were there and a very nice service, and certainly a sad day for certain.”

“I just want to speak in support of this,” said Councilman Robert Peterkin. "I've known Ron my entire life and respect him and his family and I think this is a great idea.”
