Kenai professional runner Allie Ostrander was fighting the heat on Friday during qualifying for the 3000 meter steeplechase at the I-A-A-F World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
With an air temperature the same as body temp -- 37 degrees Celsius -- Ostrander was quoted on Twitter as saying it was like running in boiling water.
Nevertheless, she set a personal best. But her time of 9 minutes 30.58 seconds in her heat was not fast enough to advance to Monday's finals, which was won by Kenyan Beatrice Chepkoech in 8 minutes 57.84 seconds.
The 3000 meter steeplechase was Ostrander's only event at the championships.
