Dry Bones incentivizes voters with coffee

Sabine Poux/KDLL

In case the thrill of voting isn’t enough of an electric jolt to the system, you can head over to Dry Bones in Kenai after casting your ballot to get caffeinated on a discount drink of your choice.

The coffee shop is taking 10 percent off drink orders for anyone who comes in with an “I Voted” sticker through Election Day, says owner Steve Raney.

“I just wanted to use it as an opportunity to encourage people to vote. Doesn’t really matter to me what your political perspective is, whether Democrat, Republican, Independent, conservative, liberal, it doesn’t matter," he said. "I just think people need to take the time and invest in the civics of our country and the most important way we can do that is by getting out and voting.”

Dry Bones opened last year. This is its first presidential election season in business.

Raney says he’s anticipating most will capitalize on the deal Nov 3.

“Haven’t seen too many early voters," he said. "Most of the people around here I think take the time to vote on Election Day and so we’re just kind of hoping that that will change on Tuesday.”

You can find Dry Bones behind the Kenai Visitors Center on the Kenai Spur Highway.
