With all peninsula precincts reporting but thousands of absentee votes still uncounted, incumbent Republicans are leading in local House and Senate races.
For House District 29, incumbent Benjamin Carpenter leads challenger Paul Dale 73.7 percent to 26.1 percent.
For House District 30, Ron Gillham leads James Baisden 66.0 percent to 33.2 percent.
In Senate District P, Incumbent Gary Stevens is leading Greg Madden 63.3 percent to 36.4 percent.
Republican incumbents are also leading across all national races, with 86.2 percent of precincts reporting statewide. President Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden 63.2 to 32.2 percent, Dan Sullivan is leading Al Gross 63.5 percent to 31.2 percent and Don Young is leading Alyse Galvin 63.9 to 35.8 percent.
Alaska residents are so far rejecting Ballot Measure 1, which proposes a tax on North Slope oil production, 65.2 percent to 34.8 percent. The “Nos” are now leading on Ballot Measure 2, regarding campaign finance transparency and ranked-choice voting, 57.2 percent to 42.8 percent. That’s, again, with 86.2 percent of precincts reporting.
Absentee ballots are not included in these results. As of Wednesday, the Division of Election had received over 3,200 absentee votes in District 29 and 3,500 in District 30. Between the two districts, more than 1,600 votes might roll in in the next week. Absentee votes will be counted no earlier than Nov. 10.
