Soldotna Wednesday Market will again include live music

City of Soldotna

Ten Wednesdays from now, Soldotna Creek Park will again be buzzing with the sights and smells of the Soldotna Wednesday Market.

This time, people can also expect the sounds they're used to. After a year hiatus, the daytime performances and evening concerts will return to the park in full force.

“It’s pretty much going to be like it used to be," said Soldotna Wednesday Market organizer Annette Villa. "With the music coming back and the vendors. We’ll have all the food trucks like normal. I’m anticipating a lot more picnic tables, which will be really nice.”

The picnic tables will still be spaced out. Villa said they’re endeavoring to keep some COVID-19 mitigation measures in place.

“The beer garden will be a little bit farther away from the actual stage so that there's a little more space up front so people can do the social distancing," she said. "Masks are certainly encouraged, but we are outside so that does help that, too.”

The Wednesday markets continued amid COVID-19 last year. But they were missing live music. Both the smaller performances during the market and the bigger concerts afterward were canceled.

When the market returns May 26, those performances will also resume. The nighttime concerts are sponsored by the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce and the Levitt Foundation, which came on board to bring in bigger bands in 2019.

The chamber submitted its roster of artists to the Levitt Foundation today. It’s not releasing the lineup until it gets approved.

Villa says I Like Robots, a Mat-Su ’80s cover band, is one of the bands that will be performing at the first market.

“The music, the people, the river, it’s just a beautiful combination that works so well together," she said. "Like a well-oiled machine.”

Would-be vendors can fill out applications on the Soldotna Wednesday Market website. Villa recommended getting those applications in quickly as possible, since space is limited.
