Pamela Parker resigning from Soldotna City Council

City of Soldotna

Pamela Parker is stepping down from the Soldotna City Council at the end of the month.

“It was never on my radar that I would be resigning my council seat,” she said. “But my family and I had an opportunity to purchase a new home and it just so happened to be right outside city limits.”

That makes her ineligible to serve on the council. Her last meeting will be May 26.

Parker, who owns Everything Bagels in Soldotna, said she worries about the gap her absence might leave behind.

“It felt like I was holding a special place for young female business owners, parents in our city,” she said. “And now it seems like there’s going to be a void because we don't really have that demographic."

Parker’s three-year term began last fall. Soldotna voters will elect a new council member this October to finish out the remainder of her term, until October 2023.

The council will appoint someone to fill the vacancy in the interim. Clerk Shellie Saner says they’ll accept applications between May 18 and June 1.
