UPDATED Jan. 17:

Police say they identified 37-year-old Daniel Dobson, of Sterling, as the deceased man found in the Jan. 7 car fire.

They said in a release Monday they're still investigating the incident.

Original story:

One person is dead after a car fire in Kenai, according to the Kenai Police Department.

Police and fire personnel responded to a vehicle fire at Beaver Creek Park on the Kenai Spur Highway around 12:30 Friday afternoon, said a press release from the police department. The release said the car was “fully engulfed” in flames before fire personnel extinguished the blaze. Officials found an unidentified individual inside the vehicle, who they said was dead.

Kenai Police Chief Dave Ross said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. And he said Friday evening that police are still trying to identity the deceased individual to notify next of kin.
