After five decades of working for grocery chain Safeway-Carrs, an 82-year-old Kenai worker has no plans to retire. Her achievement of 50 years of service was recently celebrated by dozens of store employees and grocery shoppers.

Rep. Mary Peltola has been outspoken against the merger between the companies that own Safeway and Fred Meyer. She says it could mean negative impacts on grocery options in areas of Alaska like the central Kenai Peninsula.
