Kenai Conversation: Back to school

It’s been a hard year and a half for most professionals. Teachers and education support staff in particular faced a myriad questions about safety, sick leave and remote teaching last school year.

The associations representing those employees in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District both have new leaders this school year.

Nathan Erfurth is leading the Kenai Peninsula Education Association (KPEA) and Susanna LaRock is heading the Kenai Peninsula Educational Support Association (KPESA). They joined us on Kenai Conversation this week, along with Soldotna school nurse Tammy Dudley, a member of KPESA’s bargaining team.

We talked about the associations’ new tentative agreement, how they’re feeling as the school year starts this week and the importance of mental health support for staff.
