Municipal elections in the Kenai Peninsula Borough are around the corner.
This week and last week, we spoke with the candidates for the three open seats on the Soldotna City Council.
Dan Nelson is running for Seat C and joins us in the studio. Erick Hugarte is also running for the seat. He did not respond to requests for an interview.
Later in the hour, we talk to Johni Blankenship, clerk for the Kenai Peninsula Borough, about the updates to borough voting code and the borough's new voing machines. We also talk to Alex Kopin, co-founder of the non-partisan group Kenai Peninsula Votes, about the Kenai Peninsula's problem with low voter turnout.
You can read more about all five candidates for Soldotna City Council here. Listen to our interviews with candidates Jordan Chilson and Linda Farnsworth Hutchings here.
There are two spots open on the Kenai City Council, three seats open on the Soldotna City Council and three seats open on the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly. We’ll be interviewing candidates on Kenai Conversation throughout the month of September, ahead of the Oct. 5 election.
There are also seats up for grabs on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Board of Education. We'll talk to those candidates later this month on our KDLL evening newscast.
