Another fatality was reported on the Seward Highway this week.
Thirty-four-year-old Anchorage resident Ifomaava Tagalu was pronounced dead at the scene after his truck collided with another truck near Granite Creek on Tuesday morning, according to an Alaska State Trooper report.
Troopers say a northbound truck lost control and “fishtailed” into oncoming traffic. It hit Tagalu’s truck head on.
Troopers say it’s not immediately clear if bad road conditions were the reason for the crash, though the Department of Transportation reported icy patches on the highway that day.
The collision was reported to the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center by an emergency call box, as there is no cellphone service in that location. Cooper Landing EMS, Girdwood EMS and Seward-based troopers responded to the scene.
The two passengers in Tagalu’s car and the driver of the northbound truck were transported to an Anchorage hospital. Taglu’s next of kin have been notified.
