Detained Homer woman suspected in killing of Soldotna man

Alaska State Troopers

The Alaska State Troopers detained a Homer woman suspected of homicide Thursday, according to a state trooper dispatch.

The woman is 35-year-old Sarah Dayan, who was wanted in connection with the death of 57-year-old Keith Huss, of Soldotna.

Huss’s body was found Tuesday morning near Milepost 68.5 on the Seward Highway, in Turnagain Pass. According to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, he had been shot and had trauma to his body.

The dispatch said Huss picked up Dayan at Wildwood Pretrial in Kenai on Monday afternoon. Huss was Dayan’s non-parent custodian and had bailed her out on a felony theft case, per state court records.

Troopers were searching for Dayan on Thursday when she was spotted in Seward. Dayan stole a vehicle and drove it to the base of Mt. Marathon, according to reports, where she got in a van and asked the driver for a ride. When troopers, park and local police, and members of the U.S. Forest Service arrived on the scene, the driver was able to safely exit the van and Dayan was detained, at approximately 5:24 p.m.

Troopers transported Dayan to the local hospital, since she said she sustained injuries before she was found, and then transported her to Wildwood.

Dayan appeared in court Friday morning on murder charges of the first and second degree.
