Now that both applications have school board approval, they’ll head to the state for a final OK.

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District committee tasked with oversight of charter schools voted Monday to advance the two applications it received this year.

On Monday, Aurora Borealis Charter School Principal Cody McCanna sat before the school district’s charter school oversight committee to explain why the school’s founding document should be renewed.

Oct. 1 is the deadline for the three groups to get their full charter applications into the school district.

The tribe hosted an information-gathering meeting Thursday to learn what parents and community members would want in a K-2 charter school.
