The workshop will begin with a showing of the film Seed: The Untold Story, and follow-up with a discussion with local gardeners on saving seeds from your own garden. Laurel Downing Bill Presents Angel of the Yukon
Thursday, September 18th from 5:30pm–6:45pm
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the heroic 1925 serum run to Nome. While the dogs and mushers often get the spotlight, Alaska author and historian Laurel Downing Bill will highlight another key figure: Emily Morgan, a 47-year-old Red Cross nurse who played a vital role in fighting the diphtheria outbreak. Inspired by Morgan’s life, Downing Bill researched other incredible Alaskans and just released a new Aunt Phil’s Trunk volume, Pioneers From Alaska’s Past, filled with their stories. Copies will be available after her presentation.

Repurpose & refresh used clothes by Tie dyeing them. Jen Lutron, master tie dyer, leads the events held on third Tuesdays of the month at The Goods from 4-7pm. Bring some new or used clothes, or Jen has some you may use.

Amy Peterson, Community Affairs Liaison for Koniag and the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, will share about communication and education between the Refuge and Kodiak Island tribes, corporations, and stakeholders, with emphasis on stewardship, tribal consultation, community collaboration, and cultural and educational outreach. This is a virtual presentation hosted by Friends of Alaska National Wildlife Refuges. Wild food potluck to follow.

This fun and flavorful gathering is for those who love cooking, exploring new recipes, and sharing good food. Each session, we select a cookbook, and you choose a recipe to prepare and bring to our potluck-style meetup.
Here's how it works: The featured cookbook will be available at the front desk for browsing. Pick a recipe that sparks your interest, and we'll provide a photocopy for you to take home. Then, whip up your chosen dish and bring it to share with the group. We'll take care of serving utensils, drinks, and place settings--just bring your dish, your appetite, and a love for great food!
For this session, we will be selecting recipes from The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Come and Get it! cookbook by Ree Drummond.
Registration is required. This is an 19+ adult program--Please leave the young'uns at home.

Join us every month to work on cool STEAM projects using a variety of tools. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics. This month we will be using Makey-Makey to design and build our own game controllers. Designed for a variety of experience levels ages 8 to 14.

Laurel Downing Bill Presents Angel of the Yukon

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the heroic 1925 serum run to Nome. While the dogs and mushers often get the spotlight, Alaska author and historian Laurel Downing Bill will highlight another key figure: Emily Morgan, a 47-year-old Red Cross nurse who played a vital role in fighting the diphtheria outbreak. Inspired by Morgan’s life, Downing Bill researched other incredible Alaskans and just released a new Aunt Phil’s Trunk volume, Pioneers From Alaska’s Past, filled with their stories. Copies will be available after her presentation.
