Temporary traffic lights may slow K-Beach Road commute

Commuters on the east portion of Kalifornsky Beach Road may have already noticed, but all drivers should be aware that the temporary traffic signals that are being installed are not the standard type that can detect stopped and waiting cars.

According to the Alaska DOT project "Navigator" website, these lights are on a timer, not detection, so the usual signal patterns drivers may be accustomed to have changed.

They will change again when new all-way traffic lights are installed at the intersections of K-Beach Road with Gaswell Road and with Ciechanski Road. The signals at both ends of the project, the intersections of Bridge Access Road and at the Sterling Highway, will also get new, upgraded traffic lights.

The resurfacing and signaliztion project is expected to last throughout the construction season. During that time drivers should expect short delays restricted lanes and pilot cars, especially after 8 p.m.
