Holiday food drives in full swing for food bank

Despite what the weather says, the holidays are just around the corner and a number of local businesses are helping make sure there are plenty of holiday meals to go around. At the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, deliveries of holiday meal packages begin Monday.

Executive director Greg Meyer says there are a lot of places and ways to contribute both now, and for the coming year.

“We have a whole bunch of wonderful community support right now. The Alaska Car Shop is doing a food drive for us at their facility. AT&T is doing food drives at the Kenai, Soldotna and Homer offices. At Odie’s, you can bring in three cans of food and get a free cookie. Tsalteshi Trails is doing their frozen food series. The Harley-Davidson shop on the Sterling Highway is doing a food drive as is Safe and Sound in Soldotna. Safeway, Fred Meyer and Country Foods (IGA) all have specials on turkeys and Safeway is also doing a Buy a Bag promotion, where you can pay $10 and (that bag of food) comes to the food bank. Through the 15th of December, Essential One is donating ten cents for every gallon of gas purchased.”
