Mothers and moms-to-be now have the chance to win baby goodies and learn about local parent support systems.

Hope Community Resources, a statewide organization that provides services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently held a fundraiser walk in Soldotna. While the event helps raise money, it’s also designed to increase awareness about the organization and the people who rely on it on the Kenai Peninsula.

Way Out Women, a local nonprofit that supports Kenai Peninsula cancer patients, will host a fundraiser this Saturday at the Kasilof Eagles bar in Kasilof. The event will feature a silent auction, raffle, live music, food and a snowmachine ride.

The Race Across Alaska, a multi-distance winter challenge where participants can walk, run, bike or ski, kicks off this week. Racers can choose from eight different routes, ranging from 60 miles to 2,000 miles.

Just past downtown Soldotna on the Sterling Highway is a thrift option like no other. BuildUp, Inc. is the only organization on the central Kenai Peninsula that takes in and sells second-hand building materials.
