Calling all scratchboard artists and fishermen! In honor of the 10th Annual Silver Salmon Derby, visit the Kenai Community Library during the week of August 31st to pick up a scratch board to create your favorite fish-themed art piece. Drop off your masterpiece at the main desk to enter the contest.
Scratchboards must be dropped off no later than Tuesday, September 8th. All submissions will be posted on our Facebook page. Don't forget to vote for your favorite with a like!

Join us every Wednesday to learn how to code! No coding experience is required to join, and each session is self-paced. We'll be using Fiero Code to learn how to make everything from video games to websites and everything in between! Registration is only required if you would like to use a Library computer during the club. If you plan on bringing your own laptop, you do not need to register. Recommended for ages 8-18.

We're kicking off Library Card Sign Up Month by customizing our cards! Stop by to decorate your library card with various art supplies, and keep it safe by making a felt library card holder too. All ages are welcome!

The Alaska Center for Resource Families (ACRF) invites individuals and families across Alaska to a supportive orientation for those interested in becoming resource parents.

Orientation is the first step to becoming a foster or adoptive parent in Alaska. Join us for a presentation about becoming a foster parent for the Office of Children’s Services. Licensing staff will be in attendance to answer questions.

The orientation will:

Explain the mission and function of the Office of Children’s Services (OCS)
Define the term “resource family”
Outline the steps to become licensed
Review the application process
Clarify available supports

Resource family orientation is held over Zoom.

Noah Siegel, co-author of Mushrooms of Alaska and Mushrooms of the Redwood Coast , will give a presentation on local mushroom foraging and safety, followed by a Q&A and local mushroom identification.
