Join Tsalteshi Trails Association for a preseason ski skills training session at 1 p.m. Aug. 17. Ski season is around the corner — start getting in shape with training tips from our ski coaches. Learn skills, drills and exercises you can practice now to be ready when it snows. Bring classic ski poles (or trekking poles). Meet at the Skyview Trailhead, behind Skyview Middle School in Soldotna. The event is free and open to the public. Registration in advance is not necessary. The Gauntlet is a courseless, self-navigated mountain bike race at Tsalteshi Trails. There are checkpoints in the form of old paperbacks spread throughout the trails. The locations and amount of checkpoints will be revealed at the beginning of the race. The Gauntlet will test your endurance, your wits and your ability to navigate on the trails. Riders are encouraged to ride in groups, ride socially or ride alone.
Preregister online and save. $25 for TTA members and $35 for nonmembers. Day-of registration is also available, $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers. Day-of race check-in begins at 10:00 a.m., there is a mandatory racer's meeting at 10:45 a.m. and the race begins at 11:00 am sharp. More information and preregistration at www.tsalteshi.org/events.

Harvest Moon Local Food Festival!
The Harvest Moon Local Food Festival is the Kenai Peninsula’s biggest one-day farmers market and local food celebration. The festival spotlights local Alaskans who grow, harvest and produce a wide variety of Alaska Grown and Made in Alaska food and wellness products. This event is free for the whole family and includes fun activities for kids and grown-ups alike. We have live music, featuring KP Brass Band at 5 pm, cooking demonstrations, educational talks, food trucks, the popular Fermentation Station, wild edibles walks, and a pie baking contest hosted by the local Farm Bureau.
