On this episode of the Kenai Conversation, we’re airing the next installment of our 2026 candidate forum series. Incumbent Republican candidate Rep. Bill Elam is running for reelection to State House District 8 against nonpartisan challengers Nissa Savage and Frank Quinn.

If approved, the proposal would exempt the first $75,000 of their residential property’s taxable value from the city’s property tax.

Berga will serve until the next election, in which he is also the only candidate running for the seat.

Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly members voted Tuesday to put the question on the ballot for the upcoming municipal election.

This is the first year peninsula voters will cast ballots in November instead of October.

Seventeen gubernatorial candidates and their lieutenant governor running mates appeared on the primary ballot, and results show voters on the central and northern Kenai Peninsula were far from unified on any one ticket.

On central Kenai Peninsula voters’ ballots were candidates for U.S. Senate and U.S. House, Alaska governor, candidates for State House and a ballot proposition.

Hicks has represented the assembly’s District 7 since October 2025. In a resignation letter, he said he is moving out of state next week and will not attend any future assembly meetings.
