The fund helps Alaska Native or American Indian elders in emergency situations.

The money came from Marathon’s “Catching for a Cause” fundraiser, a three-day fishing and networking event that brought people from the oil industry to the Kenai Peninsula.

Hope Community Resources, a statewide organization that provides services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, recently held a fundraiser walk in Soldotna. While the event helps raise money, it’s also designed to increase awareness about the organization and the people who rely on it on the Kenai Peninsula.

The AFS Central Kenai Peninsula youth exchange program will host an international gourmet fundraising dinner Sunday. Funds raised will help pay for students’ sports-related expenses, scholarship funding and other activities.

Way Out Women, a local nonprofit that supports Kenai Peninsula cancer patients, will host a fundraiser this Saturday at the Kasilof Eagles bar in Kasilof. The event will feature a silent auction, raffle, live music, food and a snowmachine ride.

The Race Across Alaska, a multi-distance winter challenge where participants can walk, run, bike or ski, kicks off this week. Racers can choose from eight different routes, ranging from 60 miles to 2,000 miles.

A staple of the central peninsula, the Kenai Sport Swap is the place to go if you're looking to get your hands on new or used sports equipment. The event helps raise money for the Kenai Central High School ski team, the largest high school ski team in the state.

The International Fly Fishing Film Festival will be held at Main Street Tap and Grill in Kenai next Monday. Hosted by the Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the event will showcase a number of fishing-related short films from around the world.

The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra will host its annual Evening of Classics fundraiser this Friday and Saturday night. The event will showcase local musicians of varying skill levels both in a full orchestra and smaller ensemble pieces.

For the third year in a row, two Alaska producers with peninsula roots have put together a compilation of original holiday music to benefit women’s shelters across the state.
